Losing someone you love changes everything. Grief is one of the most profound human experiences, and there is no right or wrong way to move through it. If you are struggling with bereavement or a significant loss, counselling can offer a safe, compassionate space to begin to make sense of what you are feeling.

Grief does not follow a set pattern or a predictable timeline. Some people feel overwhelming sadness. Others feel numb, or consumed by anger, or guilty for not feeling more. Many people experience a mixture of all of these at different moments. Grief can also arise from losses beyond bereavement, such as the end of a relationship, a miscarriage, the loss of a job, or a significant change in health or circumstances.

Grief that arrived unexpectedly

I have specialist experience in bereavement counselling. Alongside my private practice, I work as a bereavement counsellor at Grief Encounter, a charity that supports bereaved children and young people. This work has deepened my understanding of how grief unfolds and how people can be supported through it meaningfully.

“I will not rush you through your grief or suggest that you should be ‘over it’ by a certain point. I will listen, help you make sense of what you are experiencing, and gently support you in finding a way to carry your loss as you move forward.”

In our sessions, I will not rush you through your grief or suggest that you should be “over it” by a certain point. I will listen, help you make sense of what you are experiencing, and gently support you in finding a way to carry your loss as you move forward. Sessions are 50 minutes and are available at my practice in Bushey, serving Watford, Borehamwood, and the wider area.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a “normal” way to grieve?

No. Grief is different for every person and every loss. There is no correct timeline, and feelings can shift in unexpected ways. Counselling can help you make sense of whatever you are experiencing, however it presents.

How soon after a loss should I start counselling?

There is no set rule. Some people find it helpful to start counselling shortly after a bereavement. Others wait until the initial shock has passed. What matters most is reaching out when you feel ready. I will take things at your pace from there.

Can counselling help with grief from a long time ago?

Yes. Some people carry unresolved grief for years. Losses from the past can surface unexpectedly, particularly during other significant life events. Counselling can be helpful at any point in the grieving process, not just in the immediate aftermath.
