Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people seek counselling, and one of the most misunderstood. It is not simply feeling nervous or worried. For many people, anxiety is a persistent presence that affects sleep, concentration, physical health, and the ability to enjoy daily life. If this sounds familiar, you are not alone, and you do not have to manage it on your own.

Anxiety shows up differently for different people. Some experience a constant, low-level tension that is hard to switch off. Others have episodes of intense anxiety or panic that feel frightening and difficult to explain. Physical symptoms such as a racing heart, tightness in the chest, or difficulty breathing are common. Many people also find themselves avoiding situations that trigger anxiety, which can gradually narrow their world.

As a BACP-registered counsellor with additional training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), I can help you explore what is driving your anxiety and develop practical ways to manage it. CBT is one of the most well-researched approaches for anxiety, working by helping you understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Alongside this, I draw on humanistic and psychodynamic approaches to explore the deeper roots of anxious patterns.

“I work at your pace. Many clients tell me that simply having a safe space to talk about their anxiety — without fear of judgement or being told to ‘just relax’ — makes a significant difference.”

I work at your pace. There is no pressure to push through anything before you feel ready. Many clients tell me that simply having a safe space to talk about their anxiety, without fear of judgement or being told to “just relax”, makes a significant difference. I see clients aged 16 and above at my practice in Bushey, serving Watford, Borehamwood, and the surrounding area.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between anxiety and stress?

Stress is usually triggered by something external, such as work pressure or a difficult life event, and tends to ease when the situation changes. Anxiety often persists even when there is no obvious trigger and can feel harder to switch off. The two frequently overlap, and counselling can help with both.

Can counselling really help with anxiety?

Yes. Talking therapies, particularly CBT-informed approaches, are well-evidenced for anxiety. Many of my clients notice a meaningful reduction in how much anxiety affects their daily life within a few months of starting counselling.

Do I need a GP referral for anxiety counselling?

No. You can contact me directly to arrange an initial consultation. If you are also experiencing significant physical symptoms, it is worth speaking to your GP alongside starting counselling.
